DVD to 2.5 drive Caddy for Precision t7910

I recently replaced a DVD with a Samsung 870 EVO SSD in my Dell laptop using a DVD to 2.5 Drive adapter and was wondering if I can do the same with My T7910 Workstation. I'm talking about the vertical DVD ( not a 3.5 bay ) which appears to be the same size as my laptop. Has anyone tried this? Thanks.

Yes, 2.5" SATA drive with slim optical caddy will work in your T7910.  Here is procedure for removing the slimline optical  https://www.dell.com/support/manuals/en-us/precision-t7910-workstation/precision_t7910_om_pub/removing-the-slimline-optical-drive?guid=guid-fefe99ce-131b-41aa-aefe-b1d86916dab8&lang=en-us

Parts master @redxps630 might have to chime in, but I think this would work:  axGear SATA 2nd HDD SSD Hard Drive Caddy for 12.7mm Universal CD/DVD-ROM Optical Bay https://a.co/d/85bSQkn

It sounded like @mctalks wanted a 2.5" drive to go where the slim drive is, but the wording needs clarification.

This is what I linked.  (By the way, 9.5mm would be for laptop, not what I linked.)  Slim DVD to 2.5" HDD/SSD adapter Amazon

@redxps630

"never seen a pc with two ODD thick and thin."

Did you see the image you inserted?  It has both a slim and a 5.25" DVD drive.

If the adapter linked won't work, which one will?

I'm sure you've seen something similar, a card reader attached to a slim DVD drive that fits in 5.25" bay.  (Photo below.)  With a PC with two 5.25" bays, that makes it possible for one slim and one thick DVD drive.

And yes, Chino is correct in giving link to instructions for removing slim DVD drive.

@bradthetechnut YES, I Kinda thought that was obvious when I summarily dismissed the 5.25 drive bay delio.

ok, I guess I need to explain further. I have NO 5.25 DVD, I'm talking about the slimline DVD that sits vertical on the left side. Is this that hard to understand? Can I use one of those DVD to 2.5 converters in that space, or not?

Go with an Icy Dock adapter, they are high quality

@mctalks  You didn't say slim, but did say same size as your laptop.  So I linked a slim converter.  I said wording may need clarification due to redxps630's response and wanted to make sure.

@mazzinia_  Do you have a link for an Icy Dock adapter?  I'm just finding other brand names.

More expensive, but here's a nice one:  ICY DOCK 2.5" SSD / HDD Hot-Swap SATA Mobile Rack for 12.7mm Slim CD/DVD-ROM Optical Bay | ToughArmor MB411SPO-1B (Fits 12.7mm Height ODD Slot)  https://a.co/d/gPqkeMB

@redxps630

"never seen a pc with two ODD thick and thin."  I think what you meant was "never seen a pc with two ODD thick and thin before."

@redxps630  In spite of that, you had some good answers.  I still remember when some years ago, there wasn't enough answering over here.

Can't forget about mazzinia.

Also, I've been tempted to let you and Chino take all in the Optiplex forum.

@mctalks , already confirmed yes in my response.  The T7910 has integrated Intel storage controller support two 6Gb/s SATA ports connecting to two optical drive bays.  You can use 2.5" HDD/SSD with optical caddy in the slimline slot.
