Dell Precision 5820 with 3070ti going black screen but pc remains power on
Hi, forgive me for my bad vocabulary.
I am facing an issue in 5820 with 950 watts power supply and msi 3070ti ventus 3x oc (290watts tdp). The issue is for some reasons GPU just turns off by itself but pc remains powered on and for sometimes I got to windows login and after I enter my pin code monitor goes black and shows no signal detected. I tested this GPU in another pc and it just works fine as expected for 3070ti performance. I also try this gpu in my friend's Dell 7810 and gpu had no issues. Note: Monitor and all cables are same for the PC's I tried my gpu in.
I already changed my processor from w-2125 to w-2134, changed 3 power supplies all 950 watts. Also change the complete pc to another 5820 in warranty by my supplier. But issue remains the same. Currently have 2 dell pcie cables (DP N 076VYK) installed. Is cables missing pins causing the issue or my gpu is gone bad or anything else.
I also tried BIST test which gives me 1 amber 2 white blinks on power button.
My question, is it safe to try pcie 8 pin to 6+2 cables from another brand in 5820. Since the cables comes in from Dell has 2 pins missing or not connected from PSU side 8 pin connector. Also, if anybody have pinouts for this connection on psu distribution board please let me know.

As per the Dell diagnostic chart for the 5820 found here, that blink code indicates either a bad MB, bad PSU, or bad PSU cabling.

No, it's not safe. Even modular cables from the same PSU brand can not be interchanged across models.
If you use 076VYK cables, Those have 8-pin on power distribution board side and 6+2-pin on graphics card side. What are the missing pin you have mentioned?

@Chino de Oro "Is cables missing pins causing the issue or my gpu is gone bad or anything else." Alinaqi98 simply forgot to put a "?" at the end of the sentence.
@Alinaqi98 Have you tried any other GPU's in your 5820? Tried any other PCIe slots?
@JOcean Unless I missed something (nothing new there), no blink code was mentioned.

@bradthetechnut , the main answer for OP was a NO. It's not safe to use any PCIe 8-pin cable for Dell power distribution board. I think OP was asking about missing pins on the PCIe cable because at one end, it was designed with only 6 wires. But it is not really missing. Just the way the power distribution board being used. It has two power sockets for CPU when the 5820 has a single CPU system board.
Also, if you follow JOcean link, the second diagnostics code 1, 2 from the table indicates power issue.

@Chino de Oro
This is what I'm referring to missing pins on power distribution side.

I already tried 3 GPUs in my 5820.
P4000, GTX 1080 founders edition, and Zotac GTX 1660 super.
All works for like 15 to 20 mins and gave same no signal error on my monitor.
Update: after posting here I got hands on another 5820 but the bios version in this system is v2.34. I first tested my 3070ti and it was working like it should have.
Apologies, I forgot to mention that my 5820 got bios updated from Windows Update to v2.38. Does this bios version is related Or causing the issue in my system????(🙂) because my system was working fine before the bios update. If so that is the case please help me to downgrade this version to more stable one, as from your experience.

That was a specific design for VGA connector of T5820, only 6 wires on PSU side that can support up to 300w with extra line drop from CL class PSU using a Dell splitter adapter.
For this thread query, it's not safe to use just any 8-pin PCIe graphics cable because on the 076VYK or 0G3W07 PCIe cable, only the 8-pin connector on graphics card side is standard, the connector on PSU side is not.
For your new finding, just test with older BIOS firmware to see if it might fix the issue.

@bradthetechnut It is near the bottom of his post Brad. And it appears to be a power issue.

@JOcean
Thanks. Not sure why I kept missing it, in spite of it mentioning the BIST test.

In spite of the blink code and JOcean's post, nothing has been done with the PSU. And it could explain why another 5820 works just fine.
