DDR5-6400 ram for Precision 7875 and Threadripper pro 9000 series
Hi everyone,
Do you think that buying this Dell OEM memory:
https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/dell-memory-upgrade-64-gb-2rx4-ddr5-rdimm-6400-mt-s/apd/ad089130/memory
Would work at 6400 MT/s in a Precision 7875, even though the fine print says that it's been only validated in PowerEdge servers? What are the chances? Easier than winning the lottery, or harder?
In other words, is the motherboard of the Dell Precision 7875 physically and electrically capable of supporting 6400 MT/s DDR5 memory??

Check p7 of the spec sheet?

@TPHK Yea, the current spec sheet in 2025 is very pessimistic, I know :(
But, hey, the spec sheet from 2024 listed even lower speeds for the exact same computer!

My question is: maybe in 2026 this same computer will have a brighter future and the RAM will support higher speeds?
Is such a miracle possible or not?

I assume that you did not buy that machine just to play CoD on ultra settings so it could be an expensive experiment. Maybe it would work, but I would imagine that the speed of the memory would be capped at that of the motherboard so no significant gain or worse it introduces some calc errors/invalidates the ISV if you need that. But good luck to you if you decide to give it a go.

Well, by reading those 2 pdf .... the older mentions also a max 5200 MT using 5600 modules. So 5600 modules were mentioned in 2024 too.
But I think the key thing is that both 2024 and 2025 point out that a 5600 module would work at 5200 MT so, for some reason something is limiting the speed even if those cpu in the specs of both pdf allow 6400 MT.
Personally i suspect a 6400 module would work, but would run at 5200
