BIOS problem

Hi! Last week i had BIOS update for my Precision 3640 Tower and it works fine. Then i had a MS Windows update, and now i have a warns of a corrupted firmware. Auto recovery is finished with  a "BIOS update blocked due to unsupported downgrading" and "BIOS on demand recovery fail" messages. I try to update by USB to version 1.34.1 with the same results. What can i do in this situation?

Have you tried to run BIOS Recovery manually using the instructions here?

You need to put the BIOS 1.34.1 Recovery Image File (.rcv) on an empty, non-bootable USB stick, not larger than 8 GB and formatted FAT32.  (Do not change the name of the file you download onto the USB.)

Plug that USB into PC with power completely off. Then power on and immediately press and hold CTRL + ESC keys until keyboard backlight lights up and follow the instructions at the first link, above.

Did BIOS Recovery give an error message?

When was last time you replaced the motherboard battery?

  1. Reboot and tap F2 when you see the Dell splash screen to open BIOS setup
  2. Copy down all current BIOS settings, to be safe
  3. Power off, unplug power cord from rear of PC
  4. Press/hold power button for ~15 sec
  5. Open case and remove motherboard battery (check Service Manual for details)
  6. Press/hold power button for ~30 sec
  7. Install fresh CR2032 3-volt coin cell battery
  8. Close up and connect mouse, monitor and keyboard
  9. Reboot

If everything is working ok, try doing a BIOS Recovery again using the  BIOS1.34.1 Recovery Image File.

Go to Security section of X Trench Run > find UEFI Capsule Firmware Updates or BIOS Downgrade Protection and turn it off if available.
