7920 Tower SLI w/Zotac GTX970s

Question

I'm back with a new question. My Precision 7920 Tower is going great, BUT I am still having a problem.

I'm Using this to replace my Gigabyte X99 SLI system. I had planned to use the dual Zotac GTX970 GPUs with an SLI bridge. I know the 7920 supports SLI, but it seems to only support SLI with RTX and not GTX GPUs.

I'm not sure why this would be. I have both GPUs installed, Both can be seen in Device Manager, the NVIDIA Control Panel as well as Zotac's Firestorm software. I have the SLI bridge, that was working on the X99 system, installed. The NVIDIA Control Panel doesn't show to option for SLI.

I saw a generic article regarding the PCIe configuration settings in the BIOS, but the 7920 BIOS handles the PCIe configuration differently.

I have my cards in PCIe Slots 2 & 4 and I have 2 - 6 pin power cables to each and a 2 Port PCI Express eSATA 6G eSATA Card in either PCIe slot 6 or 7. I have 2 Xeon Gold 6138 CPUs, 128GB RAM and 2 NVME M.2 drives, one is the OS drive.

I'm not sure if there's a way to configure my PCIe lanes to support SLI on these GPUs, or if it's even possible, given my configuration.

Why not using a more recent gpu ? A 970 is a bit old for that kind of computer

@mazzinia_​ I might have to, but they are something I had on hand, and the SLI cards that the system can recognize as SLI, are not that much greater in performance.

@mazzinia_​ there's also the matter of outputs. At the moment, I'm set up with 2 DVI outputs AND I'm using a dual monitor KVM, which would mean changing out my monitors and my KVM if I were to go with something more current.

In theory you could go from dp /minidp / hdmi to dvi with an adapter. I've my rtx a2000 connected to a dsub kvm with a mdp to dsub, by example
