5820 and MegaRaid card slot position
I’m trying to figure out the best card slot configuration for the Megaraid card. I currently have a Dell GTX1060 gpu, and a Dell Ultra-speed drive duo card. Which card slots would you recommend each card to be installed?

On older system with Core-X i7 series, slot 1 is nonfunctional. But, I remember from your other thread that your 5820 has Xeon processor, all slots are fully functional.
LSI MegaRAID controller is suggested to be installed on slot 4. Your graphics card will be on slot 2 and the Ultra-Speed Duo adapter can be installed on slot 1.

@Chino de Oro that’s what I was thinking also. I was just worried about the cooling fan on the ultra-speed duo being so close to the gpu, that it would affect the cooling.

@Chino de Oro I’m also wondering, on this pc there is a front system fan that lines up with the pcie lanes. Is that fan purpose to provide cooling across the pcie cards? Like the MegaRaid? I have another lsi card that I am thinking about using, it’s a Supermicro AOC-S3008L-L8E. I understand Dell doesn’t provide the drivers for this card. But I’m gonna be running unraid on this pc and from my understanding, all MegaRaid cards can’t be flashed into IT mode, therefore will cause issues with unraid. Here is the link to the card I have.

There will be minimal affect cooling for the Ultra-Speed Duo adapter to be on slot 1.
You are correct about the front chassis fan main purpose is to provide cooling to PCIe slots add-on cards. If you don't use large graphics card with anti-sag, you can remove the black plastic PCIe holder to allow better airflow to the PCIe slots area.
Although unfamiliar, the Broadcom 3008 from supermicro is not as good and can't be compared to the LSI 9440-8i or 9460-16i tri-mode. I think it was being used in previous model of Precision 7910.

@Chino de Oro the only issue, those cards not being able to be flashed into IT mode. Appreciate your help.

For LSI SAS3008, you can review this YT video for flashing it into IT mode https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A54VuVNVX5M

@mcnaught82 Yeah, I think slot 1 will definitely influence slot 2 GPU, especially if you are using powerful GPU. I plan to upgrade it to the RTX 5080 FE and I think slot 1 should be empty for slot 2 5080 cooling.
