3620 Involuntary Bios Flash Into 2.21.0
Hello
Dell Precision 3620 i7 7700K: Was getting used to a new machine and getting accustomed to Windows 10 Pro. Installed and formatted new HHD and getting ready to install Malware Software. Took my eye off the screen for a moment, next thing you know a Bios Flash began. I allowed it to proceed: Bios Flash is a Serious Process (not to be interrupted). Anyway the machine hasn't been the same since. I was shocked, (even if I inadvertently) choose 'Automatic Updates' how could this happen? I've read that version 2.21.0 offers more security but never expected this. Has anyone ever experienced a similar event?
Thank You

@Jon Harris
Bios capsule updates appear to be being pushed whether you want them or not.
In the case of my 3640 it bricked my machine. Fortunately its not my only machine so I made a
USB 2.0 FAT32 recovery bios flash drive and got my machine back.
In warranty customers
If in warranty and a Dell Support representative directed you to update the BIOS, and it broke the motherboard CMOS, Dell will replace the motherboard.
Stipulations =
* The service itself could be either onsite service or Return to Dell Depot, depending on which warranty you purchased
If in warranty and you updated the BIOS without any direction from a Dell Support representative, and it broke the motherboard CMOS, Dell will do a one time only motherboard replacement.
Stipulations =
* The service itself could be either onsite service or Return to Dell Depot, depending on which warranty you purchased
* We will then ask you to not install any BIOS update unless you contact us first and have us guide you
Out of warranty customers
If out of warranty and a Dell Support representative directs you to update the BIOS, and it broke the motherboard CMOS, you are eligible (manager approval is required) for a one time only out of warranty motherboard replacement.
Stipulations =
* This is a one time only offering
* This is a parts only service. Dell will not send on onsite technician
* Dell will only have motherboards available for 5 years from the original system RTS (Ready To Ship) date. If you are past this 5 year period, you will need to purchase the motherboard from a 3rd party seller
The Dell Software team states that an automated software suggestion (SupportAssist, Dell Update Application ) to install any driver (BIOS update) is not the same as a Dell Support representative dictated direction. This means that if you updated the BIOS without any direction from Dell Support representative, and the BIOS update broke the motherboard CMOS, you have to buy the replacement motherboard either from Dell or a 3rd party seller.
