TL1000 System Summary Drive Status "Prevented"
I am experiencing intermittent slow backups on our TL1000. I am noticing that during an actual backup session the status of the drive in the system summary page shown in the web interface, will toggle between "writing" with blue rotating arrows and "prevented" with a green check mark. With it displaying "prevented" for much longer than it does "writing".
Does anyone know what it means when it says "prevented" for the drive status and could this be the cause of our very slow backups?
Thanks in advance for your help!

Hello,
First if you have any firmware update please do it. What you're seeing is actually normal behavior. The "Prevented" status corresponds to the SCSI command "PREVENT ALLOW MEDIUM REMOVAL", which tells the tape drive to lock the tape in place—basically preventing it from being ejected manually or by another command while the software has control of it. This happens when the backup software has allocated the drive and is actively using the tape. Even if the drive appears idle, it may just be waiting for more data to arrive from the backup server. This is common during backup, restore, or inventory operations. However, if you're seeing the drive in "Prevented" state for long stretches without much actual writing, that usually means the drive is waiting on data—which points to might be a bottleneck somewhere in the data path. For example network-related or source-related.
Hope that helps!

@DELL-Erman O
Hello,
Thanks you for explaining what the “Prevented” status means.
We are using MS DPM 2022 to do Disk 2 Disk 2 Tape backups and are experiencing wildly varying backup times to tape.
If you look at the screen shot below you will see 3 different sets of data being backed up from 4 different time periods.
As you can see the amount of data for each specific backup is pretty consistent but the time to complete the tape backup is all over the place.
