TL 4000 not sensing Write Protected tapes, is that by design ?
I keep bunch of tapes in the library for easy access for restores. From time to time I flip the write-protect tab on the tapes to protect them. However once I put them back in the library they don't show as write protected. Same in the Arcserve 16.5 server. Until I try to write to a tape or do a full inventory from Arcserve with - "read all tape info" option. This obviously is waste of time. So my question is when tape is imported and scanned into the library isnt there check for write protection ? The inventory process from the web management does not discover/read the tab position.
Maybe there are options to fix this, I think in Arcserve the Inventory default behavious could be changed.
Thx for any info.

Hello Janwww,
With the TL4000 there is no way for it to tell if a tape is write protected until the media is in the drive. When the TL does it scan of the media that is loaded it only looks at the barcode labels or if no label is seen then it will check to confirm that the slot is not empty, & will mark the slots accordingly.
