Tape errors on new ML3 tape library

ML3 with 3 x LTO9 HH Fiber Channel drives. latest firmware. using with commvault. with at least 5 different brand new LTO9 tapes, the library is reporting these two tape errors. This occurs with all the drives.

A drive reported an undefined error. (T10 39)

Cartridge had a read, write, or positioning error because of faulty media. (T10 4) 

I have a call with support but the only they have suggested so far is try a different tape. I can't believe all these tapes are bad. the brand name of the tapes is IBM. Diagnostics don't report any errors.  i think it must be with the hba settinigs, drivers or firmware since all the drives report the same tape error. ive updated them to the latest.
