Storage Pool Degraded - MD3660f
I have a MD3660f device which has an extension attached with a single storage array on that. We have 2 disk pools, one on the extention and one on the main array. The one on the main array is currently showing as degraded. This seems to have happened because we had a failed disk. I have replace the disk as usual, and its been detected and added as an assigned disk. However, the writeback process never seems to have started, and the disk pool still shows as degraded. Any suggestions on how to fix this issue as I'm concerned losing additional disks might cause data loss.

Hello thanks for choosing Dell. Would you be able to post a pic of the screen?

Hi, wasn't sure which screen you wanted so I've posted a couple.
As you can see, all of the physical disks look ok ATM.

Hi, yes I have checked the recovery guru as highlighted, and all it mentions are:
Thin Virtual Disk Repository - Full
Thin Virtual Disk Repository - Threshold Exceeded
Replication Group Synchronization - Threshold Exceeded
Virtual Disk not on preferred path
None of these issues would seem to relate to the problems we are experiencing.

Hi @sherb25,
It seems that the disk now is optimal, and recovery guru is not showing any failed drive to be rebuild. The degraded VD might be related to VD not on preferred path. Can you check in recovery guru for preferred path recovery and follow the instructions.

Hi Joey,
Thanks for the help. I've just had a look, and there are only 6 virtual disks showing as being on the wrong path in that diskpool, but we have way more than that showing as degraded. Also, one of the disks showing as wrong path is not degraded, so I don't think thats the issue.
Its also got 7 disks in the other pool as on the wrong path, but none of them are degraded.

Hi, might be the degraded disk pool is that one or more of the physical disks are failing but not yet marked as failed. You can try to check the health status of each disk by using the physical disk properties option in the MDSM. You can also run a disk consistency check to verify the integrity of the data on the disks.

Hi,
I can't see how to check the physical disk properties in MDSM. Is it just a case of selecting each disk individually?
The disk consistency check for the disk pool is greyed out on the menu.

Oh, also you can usually see the writeback process as an operation while its running, and this doesn't seem to be the case with this.

yes you can selecting each disk individually and check them. I assume the replaced HDD was Dell part. Please check the replaced HDD's firmware version if needed you can update it. Just maybe come to my mind writeback process can take some time depending on amount of data in the cache and speed of HDDs.

Hi,
Yep, replaced disk was dell enterprise. I've checked each disk individually and all appear as optimal and assigned. The firmware on the new disk (which is assigned and optimal) is GS15, which matches the other disks.
Thanks for the help with this.
