Setup MD1400 to my server
I have brought a MD1400 stroage, and want to attach it to my own server (non-Dell server), which has equiped with SAS HBA card already.
However, I found the official Storage Hardware Manager software only support Ubuntu 16, but my server is Ubuntu 18.04.
I've tried to install the software but failed with no luck. Is there any solution to this issue.
Thank you so much.
Best.

Which "Storage Hardware Manager "? The MD1400 is a JBOD and there is no software for it.
The JBOD is for attaching to a RAID Array(MD3 for example) or behind a PCIe RAID HBA like H840 expanding storage capacity of a Server. If you already have the (NON DELL) HBA you need to take a look there.

ChingRyu,
With connecting the storage unit to your server you will need to follow the hardware and OS requirements. You can find the MDs hardware requirements here, and the requirements for the mgmt software here, including the supported OS's.
Let me know if this helps.

Thank you so much for your advice. I will take a look at the HBA card. The HBA card has already been detected by my server, do I still need to install any drivers or utililty softwares to make the MD1400 work? or just setup it in the BIOS is enough?
Thank you.
Best regards

There is no need for a driver to get a MD14x0 working from a OS perspectiv because its all about the HBA. Think about a external backplane..... for a internal one your OS also doesnt need a driver because it also behind a HBA.
What kind of HBA do you are using?

Thank you so much for your quick response. I'm using Dell H840 HBA card. It has been already inserted on the slot and connected to the MD1400 via SAS cables. So next, I just need to setup the RAID volume in the BIOS? The server will recognize the volume seamlessly?
Thanks
Best regards.

Yes you have to enter the H840 RAID HBA. There you can create one or more VDs with certain parameters. At the end it gives you a Volume/LUN your OS will picks up.
