Recovering a partially failed Disk Group on a Dell Powervault MD3200i
I had a controller event on my dual controller md3200i, which caused two disk groups in the main 3200i chassis to partially fail. All hardware is "green" status andthe disk drives are not failed, and some of the virtual disks are ok. THis md3200 has two MD1200 expansion chassis which were unaffected. I removed the iscsi mappings from the smaller group and tried to export the disk group, and it would not export due to the failed virtual disks. I was successful at removing this smaller (4 - 2TB disks) group, and importing it to a spare md3200i, so i can work on it. I tried "check virtualDisk" and "repair virtualDisk" cli commands and neither worked. The "check" command wouldnt complete because the virtual disk was in a "failed" state. The "repair" command showed some promise at first, but i think it needs input in the form of a "consistencyerrorfile" (results of a "check"), which i can't get. Any suggestions?

Hi Jon,
Try doing a media scan so that it does a consistency check. Page 94 https://dell.to/2LRqB4b

Thanks Josh. I tried this early on. The scan failed because the virtual disks were in a failed state. Any more suggestions?

Do you have a backup of the data? If you don’t it may be better to send the drives to data recovery.

You could try running the revive command using smcli.
Revive diskgroup[name]
There are more options to try, but they require a phone support escalation because they need to remote in to do them because of non-public passwords to access certain commands.

I have a backup of the important stuff. But there's some historical stuff that I'd like to get back, which isnt as easy to re-create. No other suggestions?
