PowerVault TL2000 library - tape drive appearing twice in Device Manager
Just installed a new TL2000 on a Dell R630 server. Using 6Gbps SAS HBA. Windows 2008 R2. In Device Manager I can see two "unknown medium changer" and two tape drives (IBM ULT3580-HH4). However in reality there is only one library and one drive.
Windows has allocated a different SCSI id to each "drive" and "changer". Does anyone know why Windows is detecting two devices when there is only one?
(see attachment screen shot)

Hello Martin,
How many cable do you have coming from the back of the tape drive? If you connected a SAS cable to both ports on the back of the drive then that is your issue as you only need on port on the drive to be cabled at a time.
Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Hello mrenn,
It looks like you might be using the correct drivers. Here is a link to the drivers for the TL2000. http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=0T0DW&fileId=3413618772&osCode=WS8R2&productCode=powervault-tl4000&languageCode=EN&categoryId=TA
You are going to want to run the install_nonexclusive driver and then reboot the server and the extra devices should go away.
Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Thanks Sam. I followed your instructions and installed the drivers. Unfortunately the changer and tape drives are still appearing twice, even after reboot. The only difference is now the changer is named "IBM TotalStorage 3573 Tape Library" and the tape drive has changed to "IBM Ultrium 4 HH 3580 Tape Drive". But they are still showing twice. Do you have any other ideas?
Thanks,
Martin

Thanks Sam. That was the issue. 2 SAS cables were connected. Once I removed one only 1 drive was show. Thanks.
