PowerVault ME4 - Cisco Nexus 3k, 6k Compatibility

Hi All Community Members,

I have some questions about compatibility with ME4 storage and Cisco Nexus 3000 and 6000. We have ME4 storage connected to Cisco Nexus switches with Dell DAC Cables. All Storage ports are configured for iSCSI. From switch side and from storage side we can see that ports are up and running but, switch can't detect MAC addresses of storage.

What could be the cause of this kind problem? is there some document to check compatibility between this two brands?

Any help will be appreciated.

Hi,

Here are some things that may help, not specifically for the ME4. https://dell.to/2P3Uy2E

Let us know if you have any additional questions.

Sorry but we are not using IPv6. We did some troubleshooting and seems that DAC cables not working correctly (maybe incompatibility).

For example we cleared port statistics for one of nexus port where storage is connected. We did shutdown of this port then up again. In port statistics we can see only TX packets bellow:

RX
0 unicast packets 0 multicast packets 0 broadcast packets
0 input packets 0 bytes
0 jumbo packets 0 storm suppression bytes
0 runts 0 giants 0 CRC 0 no buffer
0 input error 0 short frame 0 overrun 0 underrun 0 ignored
0 watchdog 0 bad etype drop 0 bad proto drop 0 if down drop
0 input with dribble 0 input discard
0 Rx pause
TX
0 unicast packets 197 multicast packets 0 broadcast packets
197 output packets 20860 bytes
0 jumbo packets
0 output error 0 collision 0 deferred 0 late collision
0 lost carrier 0 no carrier 0 babble 0 output discard
0 Tx pause

We don't have any RX packets.

Here is also "show interface transceiver" command output:

Ethernet1/1
transceiver is present
type is
name is DELL EMC
part number is L56SF018-SD-R
revision is A1
serial number is CN0LXD000AK7J23
nominal bitrate is 10300 MBit/sec
Link length supported for copper is 3 m
cisco id is --
cisco extended id number is 4

Also here is "show interface transceiver" command output where we using third-party DAC cables:

Ethernet1/5
transceiver is present
type is SFP-H10GB-CU1M
name is OEM
part number is SFP-H10GB-CU1M
revision is R
serial number is CSC191101491074
nominal bitrate is 10300 MBit/sec
Link length supported for copper is 1 m
cisco id is --
cisco extended id number is 4

And they are working without any problems.

Seems that DELL DAC Cables not compatible with Cisco Nexus switches. We are going now to buy DELL Compatible SFP+ Transceivers and will make cabling with optics....
