Powervault EqualLogic series minimum disks

Hi all,

I have some Powervault and EqualLogic storage systems we want to reuse. Concretely Powervault MD1220, MD1420 and MD3060E and EqualLogic PS6110 and PS6210.

I found in other thread that PS4210 needs almost half of drives to initiate.

Where I could check what number of drives are needed to initiate each model?

Regards,

Equallogic i think require 7 disks to run the setup

MD i dont think there is a limit, just watever you need to create a raid

Every EQL you want do setup need 50% or 100% amount of disks. The installer configure the drives in a RAID10 IIRC. After the initial setup is done  you select your RAID level later during configuring of the EQL.

For the Powervault MD3 is doesnt matter how many disk you have.

About the 7 disks.... There are Hybrids (PS 6210XS) out there which have 7 SSD and 17 hard drives for example.

Are you sure? I remember being working with a MD3660 in the past and required some disk to initialize but I don't remember what amount of disks I needed. I have just found this information about MD3 models:

https://dl.dell.com/manuals/common/md32xx_md36xx_supportmatrix_en-us.pdf

A minimum of 20 SAS HDDs or SSDs are required in each MD3x60 enclosure (4 in front of each drawer)

Youre right about the HighDensity model 3x60.   I have only expirience with the MD32xx/3420 (the 2U units) and they dont care about disk count.

i have a 3860 with only 4 disks which is enough to allow the clocks to syncronize. after that its whatever you need to create a raid.
