NX3200 disks go to amber after restart
Hello.
after restarting the NX3200 the disks go to amber led - re-seating the disks they go green and ready
checked and i saw 2 disks that are not Dell and replaced them with Dell ones.
did HW diagnositc and get on the HDD critical system board drive :drive slot sensor for system board
drive fault was asserted.
the disks that boot in green randomly change.
anybody got an idea?

Hi, one advice I can give you is to use a Dell certified part, not from a third vendor. The reason being the firmware is different even though the physical part might have the same specification. Wish you a good weekend ahead ^^

all the parts in the NX3200 are dell certified parts.
we replaced the backplane and the raid controller H710 mini
but the issue is still the same.

Hello @lukehy,
Sorry but there are a lot of information in your message and it is a little difficult to understand all the steps you followed. I will try now to put everything together:
- Restarting the NX3200 cause all disks to go amber.
- The you reseatted the disks. -> Question: why didn't you check iDRAC log or Lifecycle Controller log or Open Manage Server Administrator to check what happened? Why yo reseatted the disks?
- Then you cheked the disks and detected 2 non Dell drivers. -> Question: How did you checked this? Phisically? So you extracted the disks agains?
- Then you ran a hardware diagnostics. And then you get some disk errors.
- Then you replaced the backplane and PERC controller. -> Question: Why you replaced this?
I really think you need the logs to be checked to understand what is going on. Is the server still on warranty?
Regards.

i have checked the Idrac and ran diagnostic HW and it showed critical system board : drive slot sensor for system board, drive fault was asserted(on all the disks).
got Test results warning Msg. no hard drive detected , or disk controller not supported
- Then you cheked the disks and detected 2 non Dell drivers. -> Question: How did you checked this? Phisically? So you extracted the disks agains?
when the issue started with the amber light on the disks started i have checked the disks and found that 2 of them were not Dell certified and replaced both with certified disks (after that ran the HW diagnositc).
basically chain of events:
1. amber light on all the disks after a restart - workaround is to re-seat them and they change to green.
2, first checked the disks and saw 2 of them although same model but not dell certified so replaced them (all 12 disks have the same dell P/n now).
3. still had the issue with amber led after restart (when re-seating the disks are fine).
4. ran the HW diagnostic and got the errors above on all the disks .
5. replaced the backplane , though that could be the issue and when the issue continued replaced the Perc H710mini.
6. still got the issue with the amber led on the disks after a restart.

Hello again @lukehy,
Ok, thanks for the explanation. So I see you made many troubleshooting steps.
I understand by your message and by your troubleshooting steps that you are not interested on recovering the RAID information but to recreate a new RAID array and start over.
If so, I think there are some errors related to the disks (probably Failed disks) and some errors related to the RAID (maybe but not sure until we have more information: puncture errors). Can you check the PERC BIOS (Ctrl + R on boot) and post some pictures of physical disk and virtual disks tabs?
Thanks in advanced.

Hello @DiegoLopez
attached below some screenshots of this issue
you are right i dont care about the raid not sure if i mentioned that the issue is only with the 12 front disks, the 2 in the back work fine- another thing noticed that even though the disks are in green they are not detected by the system (HW Diagnostic) and get the MSG :Hard drive -no hard drive detected , or disk controller not supported.
Please let me know if you require more information.

Thanks, It is possible one of the drives is causing it. Maybe try one drive by itself and see if it still does it on reboot, if it does, try a different drive, if it doesn’t keep adding drives one at a time. Alternatively, it could be a cable and you might want to replace the SAS cables.
