ME4024: replacement HDDs not recognized

Hi there,

we got HDDs delivered from our supplier that seem to be not recognised in our ME4024.

Initially we used

F9NWJ 2.5" AL15SEB24EQY 2.4TB 10K Toshiba

and later we got

RWR8F 2.5" DL2400MM0159 2.4TB 10K Seagate

which also worked fine.

Now we got again RWR8F, but this time these are Toshiba HDDs and they seem to be not recognised correctly.

In compatibility list I could not find this combination of RWR8F/Toshiba, therefore I'm a little confused.

Unfortunately our Pro Support ended last month, so I cannot create a support ticket in this regard.

We have now requested an offer to extend this.

Meantime I'd like to clarify if the delivered HDDs are the correct replacement and what we need to do

to get these running. I've to admit that we are still running on initial controller FW GT280R008-04.

Would the controller FW update help to get the HDDs recognised? Or is this maybe depending on the HDD FW?

Any help would be highly appeciated!

Best regards

Stefan

Forgot to add: the RWR8F came in a different frame (DXD9H), supplier told us that we can simply switch the frame to a matching one.

The Drive has failed the SMART check for "Impending failure".

Thanks for your answer!

You mean the 2 new drives are defect? I assume this SMART error could be a result of incompatibility.

PPID of the new drives is PH‑0RWR8F‑TB200‑4CJ‑2S5P‑A01, are these supposed to work with ME4024?

Well those logs only mention one drive.

An incompatibility wouldn't give a smart error in my experience anyway.

When it comes to Dell part numbers the "RWR8F" is the part number of the drive but not necessarily the correct drive for the ME4024. The specific drives you have may be for a dell Poweredge server for example.

Issue is same on both drives, so I didn't add this information twice - sorry.

Yes the drives seem to be for a different system, as the frame was a different one.

Just need to know if there is any way to get them to run in ME4024 or if I need different drives.

Seems to be difficult to get matching drives for ME4024...

i don't think so, they would probably use different firmware and maybe other settings.

If you can return them do it, the smart error is a red flag.

When buying just make sure to ask if there from a ME system and maybe give them the FW level of the drives that already work in your system.
