ME4024 - ADAPT vs. RAID5

Dear Community,

I am currently setting up a new ME4024 with 24x SAS Disks.

It will be used as a backup repository.

Usually I would use a RAID5 with Hotspare Disk. But I noticed that there is an "ADAPT" mode for the pool configuration. Can anyone explain how this exactly work? I already read the administrators guide with the description, but could not find out how it works technically.

Maybe there is some kind of picture to see how this mode handels data blocks / stripes on the disk?

Thank you!

Hello Christoph,

ADAPT or Distributed RAID is similar to Dynamic Disk Pooling (DDP) on an MD3 systems.  In essence, DDP functions as effectively another RAID level offering in addition to the previously available RAID 0, 1, 10, 5, and 6 traditional RAID Disk Groups. DDP greatly simplifies storage administration because there is no need to manage Idle spares or RAID groups.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.
