ME 5084 - HDD install issues with drive caddies.
Hi All,
I was wondering if others who have an ME 5 or 4 series storage drawer(s) are experiencing the same issue as me.
We have a 2 drawer ME5084. Adding drives should be a simple process,
First section (front) of each drawer no problem. Just like the video, click and lock.
Second section (middle) some tension while locking.
Third section (back) of each drawer I've had nothing but issues. The drive does not lock.
Dell even sent a tech out to assist, but no luck. Even swaping the drive caddies didn't help much.
Am I the only one with this issue? Dell is coming by with new caddies for the remainder 14 drives, but what is going to happen in 5 years when a drive goes back and I cannot replace it because I can't get it to lock?
Thanks,
Nepsi

It seems like you're encountering a specific hardware issue with the ME 5 or 4 series storage drawers from Dell, particularly related to the drive caddies not locking properly in the third section (back) of each drawer. While I don't have real-time information on specific product issues or user experiences, I can offer some general advice and suggestions:
Contact Dell Support: It's a positive step that Dell is sending new caddies to address the issue. Continue working closely with Dell's technical support team to ensure the problem is resolved satisfactorily. If it's a widespread issue, they may be working on a permanent solution or fix.
Document the Issue: Keep a detailed record of the issues you're experiencing, including any troubleshooting steps you've taken, communication with Dell support, and the outcomes of those interactions. This documentation can be valuable if you encounter similar problems in the future.
Warranty and Service Agreement: Ensure that you understand the warranty and service agreement for your ME5084 drawers. If this is a recurring issue and the hardware fails outside of warranty, it's important to understand the potential costs and limitations associated with replacements or repairs.
Feedback to Dell: If you're concerned about the long-term reliability of the caddies, consider providing feedback to Dell about your experience. They may use customer feedback to improve the design or manufacturing process for future products.
Explore Alternatives: If the issue persists or you're not satisfied with the resolution, you may want to explore alternatives, such as third-party caddies or storage solutions, though this would depend on your specific needs and compatibility requirements.
Regular Maintenance: Regularly inspect your storage drawers and caddies for any signs of wear, damage, or issues. Preventive maintenance can help identify and address problems before they become critical.
Remember that hardware issues can sometimes be specific to certain batches or individual units, and it's not uncommon for manufacturers to work with customers to address such issues under warranty or service agreements. Continue to work closely with Dell's support team to ensure your ME5084 drawers function correctly, and don't hesitate to seek further assistance if the problems persist or if you have concerns about the long-term reliability of the hardware.

I have the same problem and it's a little tricky to get the drives to lock in place. The gides and video don't really show this part. Drive caddy have rubber on them for user to move the front face plate up to lock the drive. The latch in the middle is just to release and show you if the drive is not locked. It's a smooth action. Use both hands to slide up on the drive caddy until it drops down into its spot you should see no orange on latch in the middle.
