MD3620 "Failure Entry 1: DEGRADED_DRIVE_CHANNEL-Recovery Failure Type Code: 71" in Recovery Guru
Hello;
I have a Dell PowerVault MD3620fc that is showing a degraded physical disk channel error and individual physical disk - degraded path error.
The recovery guru suggests contacting a technical support representative to fix the error and do not try to fix it myself.
All drives status seems to be optimal. I'm not sure if I can clear the errors or how to do it, if possíble.
I'm aware about a battery issue in controller slot 0 and waiting for a scheduled window in order to replace the battery.
Could anyone help with some usefull information?
Regards;

Hello,
The channel is the connection from your drives to your controllers. In many cases you don’t need to replace anything, you just need to reset the channel stats, and that can resolve the disk channel error. You will need to use SMCLI to run the commands, but here is what you'll need:
clear allPhysicalDiskChannels stats;
set physicalDiskChannel [0] status=optimal;
set physicalDiskChannel [1] status=optimal;
set physicalDiskChannel [2] status=optimal;
set physicalDiskChannel [3] status=optimal;
Let me know if that helps, or if you have additional questions.

Hello DellEMCSupport,
Thanks for your quick answer. Sorry I'm late, many things to do over here by now.
Actually, I feel a little bit insecure. I didn't run the commands yet, and as Recovery Guru is showing some issues, I'd like to send you the support bundle, if possible. Additionally, a Volume Expansion operation failed due to a "Error 1008 - Could not communicate with the RAID controller module in slot 1 to complete this request".
I believe the SMcli commands you've suggested will clear the degraded path condition, and after replacing the battery will finally let the equipment with no alerts. Just want to be shure, then.

Hello DellEMCSupport,
There was no power outage or reboot.
Firmware versions are:
Current Package Version: 08.20.09.60
Current NVSRAM Version: N26X0-820890-907

Hello Marcio Coelho,
When you received the drive channel error was it after a reboot or power outage? The volume expansion failing can be attributed to the degraded physical disk channel. What is the current version of firmware for your MD3620f?

Hello Marcio Coelho,
You will want to run the reset command to clear and reset the channel stats. If you are still getting errors, then we can look at a support bundle to see what all is going on. This is a common issue that happens and a reset of the channel stats is what is needed in most cases.

Thanks DellEMCSupport,
I assume that those commands will have no impact, even if momentary, in normal operation or I/O access latency. Is that correct?

Hello Marcio Coelho,
That is correct. If you are worried about a loss of connection then you can run the commands during low IO times.

Hello, DellEMCSupport.
Sorry for the long time to reply. That's weird, but the issue is gone by itself. I can't understand why. I just access via Storage Manager Client and the alert wasn't there anymore.
Thank you very much for your assistance. I'll use your instructions in case the same problem returns.
Marcio Coelho.
