H840 with ME412
Is H840 support ME412 as a DAS ?
I have T550 server and I need to connect external storage so I want to use ME412 and the only external Raid controller I see that supported by T550 is H840 so I want to know it's work
Thanks

The Perc H8x0 where the RAID Controllers with 2 external Ports for ages. They are now replaced by the H965"e" within the latest PowerEdge Generation. So for your 15Gen Server a H840 is the right one
But..... the ME412 is the Extension for the PowerVault ME4/5 SAN storage. The JBOD for connecting directly to a Server like your T550 + H840 would the the MD2412 (12x3.5") or MD2424(24x2.5").
So... a ME412 may should work.. but i have my doubt if its support by Dell. So we need to wait for a Dell people to get an answer about that.

Hello,
I agree to Joerg. Yes, the H840 does support the ME412 but there’s a key detail to keep in mind. The ME412 is actually designed to function as an expansion unit for a base system like the ME4012 or ME4024. In a proper DAS setup, the H840 would connect directly to that base array (ME4012 or ME4024), and then the ME412 would be daisy chained off of it.
So, if you're planning to use the ME412 with your T550 and H840, you'll want to make sure you also have an ME4012 or ME4024 SAS base array in the mix. That’s the supported and intended configuration for everything to work smoothly.
Hope that helps!

@DELL-Erman O
your answer doesnt make sence to me. A ME4012/4024 SAN with SAS Ports is connected to a HBA355e or maybe 12G SAS HBA because you should use a non RAID HBA to connect a RAID SAN.
T550 -> H840 -> MD2412/2424 (Supportet)
T550 -> HBA355e -> ME4012/4024 -> ME412 (Supportet)
T550 -> H840 -> ME412 ??

Joerg

@Origin3k I think I didn’t explain myself clearly earlier. sorry if I was confusing.. What I meant to say is that the configuration T550 → H840 → ME412 is likely not supported. To clarify, a proper setup would look like T550 → HBA355e → PowerVault ME4012, and then you can expand that with an ME412. The ME412 isn’t a standalone JBOD it’s just an expansion shelf. It only has basic I/O modules and needs to be connected to a base array like the ME4012 or ME4024 to function. So, you can’t connect the ME412 directly to the H840 or use it on its own it has to sit behind a base ME4 array.
