Failing Power Supply in MD3200i
In preparation for moving our equipment to a co-location facility, I've setup MDSM so that I can back up the configuration data for our MD3200i. But after connecting to the array I was notified that it needed attention.
It was just one of the Virtual Disks being accessed via a non-preferred path. But while investigating that I found a troubling amount of critical events in the event log.
Pretty much all of them are:
Description: RAID enclosure component failed
Event specific codes: 0/0/0
Event category: Internal
Component type: Power Supply
Component location: Enclosure 0, Power Supply/Cooling Fan module 2, Slot 1
Logged by: RAID Controller Module in slot 0
The condition lasts for roughly 10 seconds and then it returns to optimal state.
It appears to happen at random. Looking through the log, I can see that the amount of times it happens varies from month to month. The lowest being twice a month, and the highest being 104 times in one month.
I'm posting here as I'm stumped as to how to proceed. We can't co-locate the array if it might be about to have a Power Supply failure.
Thanks,
Ken

Hello Ken,
With the error that you are getting it is stating that one of the fans in the power supply is failing. Now your power supply will continue to run but it will start getting warmer & will fail at some point. What we normally recommend when a customer gets this error is that you replace the power supply.
Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Thanks for the reply.
I've found that the warranty on this array expired at the end of January this year. But the logs of this event show it starting back in May 2012. Does that affect the coverage of this problem?
Thanks.
