Expand MD3400
Hi everyone,
We have a 12-bay MD3400 SAN with 600GB drives and would like to add capacity by replacing all those 600GB disks with 1.2TB disks.
Would it be possible to simply replace each disk, one at a time, let it rebuild then replace the next -- or is there a better way of doing this?
Thanks!

Hi @I-AM-PAT,
If there is no choice to bring the storage out from production and being offline awhile to replace all drive and reconfigure, then replacing 1 by 1 drive would be the best option. But this process may take a very long duration to finish replacing all 12 drives with 1.2TB as you need to wait for each rebuild to finish before proceeding to the next replacement. Sometimes, you may encounter RAID puncture, ref: https://dell.to/3Y8wmto
My thoughts would be to do a data backup, reconstruct with all drives replaced then copy data back in.

Hi, I think this is AL14SEB18EQ the model number, the one you gave. We need to check DPN(part number). I googled that model number and found this GP3FR part number. It seems the below attributes if the same HDD you have. And This HDD seems compatible with MD3400, I can recommend checking DPN on HDD.

Thanks for all your help. Two more questions
1. Will a 12GB disk work in my 12GB array?
2. My array is 3.5" and I need those 2.5" to 3.5" adapters, could you share the part number? This is what I found: Y004G 3.5 to 2.5 Tray Adapter -- is it right?
Thank you.

Where can I check if it's compatible once I find the DPN?
Also would a 12GB drive work in a 6GB array?

You can be asked to us or your local support team or sales team. Other than that I'm not aware of a public compatible list for DPNs.

I-AM-PAT,
From what I am seeing the only listed 2.5 to 3.5 adapter on the MD3400 would be part number 9W8C4. I am not seeing Y004G listed for anything other than poweredges.
