DELL/EMC POWERVAULT ME4024 CLI Password reset

Hi -

I am trying to redeploy a POWERVAULT ME4024.

Unfortunately we do not have the CLI login credentials.

I have found a few posts related to this where one can login w/:

username - restoredefaults  / password - motherboard serial number

reset the defaults and login with manage/!manage

This doesn't appear to work - It may have something to do w/ a newer firmware version - currenlty at Version 275.

Any one have any suggestions as to how to proceed?

Thanks

RTC - Andover,

You will need to contact support in order to reset the password.  You will also need to setup a maintenance window as the controller needs to be rebooted following the password reset procedure.  Lastly, you will also need the cable that came with your ME4024 so that you can connect to the serial port on the controller.

Hope this helps.

Hook u a serial connection, log into as the siervice user, choose the password reset and youre done. WARNiNG... the array will reboots both CM at same time without further notification. After that the default password is active again but config and data are still in place.

Jorg,

thanks for responding - not sure what service account you are referring to.

Can you let me know the username / password combination you are referring to and I can go from there.

thanks

Chris - thanks for responding.

So the KB articles  i read suggesting logging in with

username - restoredefaults  / password - motherboard serial number and then resetting to defaults is not an option anymore or never was?

This ME4024 is not under a maintenance contract. I am just trying to set it up in a lab for a test environment.    Will Dell support assist w/ a PWD reset if it is not under contract?

Let me know on both when you can.

Thanks

Username: restoreusers
Pass:  THE_SERIALID_OF_YOUR_UNIT

  • After keying the password and pressing enter, user credentials of both controllers will reset to default and both controllers will automatically reboot.
  • You can now log in with the factory-default credentials (manage !manage).
  • In MESM, right click on top right 'session', click on 'Manage Users' - One can now change password from !manage to ones preference.

Done that on a ME4 last year.

Eyes open!  Different login names triggers different actions! The "restoreusers" Username is for reseting the users and not wiping all config and your data.

I have in mind that the process might be related to different FW versions but when worked with Dell support they just send the instructions within a minute and dont ask for what Version we have.

Because the unit was around 2-2.5 years old that the procedure from above is for '"newer" onces.

hi - and thanks for responding.

I am assuming you are referring to the process of login in with:

username - restoredefaults  / password - motherboard serial number

which will in turn reset user credentials on both controllers to factory defaults.

Unfortunately this doesn't seem to work - Do you know if that process is firmware version related?

We are on 275

LMK - thanks

@RTC - Andover

Hello, I too have this same problem but it is with ME5024 that I can no longer access any of the controllers because I forgot the password that I had created and I tried with the reset method that you gave to Jörg but it doesn't work

Hello,

I will suggest you to contact technical support in order to reset password.

It depends also by the firmware version.

Thanks
