DELL Perc H330 to DELL LTO6 (IBM) Internal Tape Drive

Good morning,

This should be a simple question, yet has me a scratching my head...

I'm trying to fit a DELL LTO6 internal tape drive to a system with a DELL Perc H330 controller.

The H330 has an HD mini-SAS SFF-8644 connector, and I have found a document confirming it is a valid controller for the tape drive.

I'm struggling to find any information really on the drive, however I believe the connector is either a SFF-8680 or SFF-8639.

Does anyone know what cable I need to connect the two devices please? I'm really struggling to find anything with that combination.

Hello Derek,

Here is the Dell part# 606JD for the cable that goes from your PERC H330 to your LTO6 Tape drive.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Looks like the tape drive could also be a SFF-8482 based on Lenovo documents of a similar(-ish) drive.

I've ordered a SFF-8643 to SFF-8482 cable to give it a test (it's cable I can actually find, which suggests it may be more likely).

Fingers crossed!

According to the Dell specifications, this card has a SFF-8644, yet Wikipedia says the 8644 is an external connector; could this be a typo and should actually be SFF-8643, which is the internal version? Both look physically similar in pin connectivity.

Sam, the 606JD cable looks to have a mini-SAS (SFF-8087) connector on the HBA end.  He'll need a mini-SAS HD (SFF-8644) on the HBA330, no?

Hello procrastitron, Nope. You can use that cable and connect it to the PERC H330 without any issues. Please let us know if you have any other questions.
