Dell ML6020 LTO6 SAS tape drive firmware upg E6R0 to J450

Spoiler

I upgraded my Dell ML6020 to the latest available firmware. Tape subsystem indicates it is quite happy, but my Microsoft Windows server 2012 R2 states:

Windows cannot initialize the device driver for this hardware. (Code 37)

Object Name not found

I can't find any current drivers, is there a solution or can I successfully downgrade by reinstalling the E6R0 firmware?

This is important because I am not getting any backups till this is fixed.

ok, I had to uninstall the tape  and media changer devices including to check to have the driver uninstalled.
i then rebooted my server and Windows seems to see them all ok though it does list the media changer as unknown.

I re-added the subsystem to my backup software and it seems happier.
Now I just have to remember if I made any changes to that I need to reconfigure.

I hate having to delete software/drivers, always seems so risky.  Don't understand why Windows couldn't just reconfigure what was already there since only the firmware changed.

Hello catkieffer,

What is the version of windows that is on your server? If you are using windows 2012 or 2016 here is the driver that you want to use. https://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/drivers/driversdetails?driverid=x18vh&oscode=wst14&productcode=powervault-ml6000

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Hello catkieffer,

Are you getting an error when trying to upgrade the firmware? Have you stopped all backup software services?  Are you trying to update the firmware using ITDT or the ML6000 web utility?

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

I already upgraded the firmware using the web interface.  It took over an hour for the tape drive firmware but I didn't get any errors.  I even reinstalled the firmware on one of the tape drives just to be sure.  It took 1.5 hours and indicated completed successfully.  The web interface indicates the system is just fine, but the Windows software driver still gives the same error.  My backups fail because they can't talk to the tape drives.

I don't know how to use the ITDT services.  When I try the scan mode it just seemed and seems to keep scanning and when I try to quit, it seems to just hang.  I am assuming again because of the Windows driver error.

So unless there is a newer windows driver that doesn't show up when I pull up the drivers and firmware for my particular server the only resolution I can think of is to try to reinstall the original E6R0 firmware since I know that one works.  Hopefully I won't have to downgrade the library firmware also.

Are there any concerns with trying to reinstall the previous E6R0 firmware over the J450?

And I do have to add a correction, I guess I will have to downgrade the library firmware as Windows also indicates that the Medium Changer devices also can't be initialized.

Windows 2012 R2.
Thank you for the link.  I only saw a driver file dated for 2014 when I checked the drivers for my particular server in the Dell support site.
