Is PowerPath required for ESXi and PowerStore 3000T?

Hello. I hope you are well. We are getting our first powerstore and will be attaching ESXi v7.0 clusters. In reading the documentation its seems to me that PowerPath is actually optional. We do not like any unnecessary software or plugins on our hypervisors. Of course we will set the pathing policy to round robin, and increase the disk io rates, etc. I was just curious if powerpath is required. Thank you.
