Diagnosing excessive CPU Utilization

One of my Storage systems (Powerstore 1000T, 2 node nvme appliance) started running over 50% for both nodes at the beginning of Feb. and it's not clear why. Bandwidth used by the VMWare environment it serves is low (~5MB/s) as is IOPS (250 IO/s) and both are lower than they were before the cpu spike started (which makes me think that performance may be affected since the VSphere environment was not changed at that time. I suspect there's some background task running that is consuming a lot of cpu... but the basic diagnostics in the web app don't appear to give me that level of granularity.

Are there more advanced tools for seeing what a Powerstore environment is doing? It's been over a month which seems a long time for any typical housekeeping task.

There are more advanced tools available for monitoring and troubleshooting performance issues in a PowerStore environment.

One option is to use PowerStore Manager, which provides more detailed information about the system's performance and allows you to drill down into specific metrics. PowerStore Manager can be used to monitor CPU utilization, network performance, storage performance, and other system-level metrics. It also provides detailed information about the health and status of individual components, such as disks, controllers, and power supplies.

Another option is to use performance monitoring tools built into the operating system running on the PowerStore appliance. For example, you can use the command-line interface (CLI) to run performance monitoring commands and collect data on CPU utilization, I/O throughput, and other system-level metrics.

Additionally, Dell EMC offers support services that can help diagnose and resolve performance issues in a PowerStore environment. You can contact Dell EMC support to request assistance with troubleshooting the issue and identifying any background tasks that may be consuming CPU resources.

In summary, there are several advanced tools available for monitoring and troubleshooting performance issues in a PowerStore environment, including PowerStore Manager, performance monitoring tools built into the operating system, and Dell EMC support services.
