upgrade powerpath for 3.0.4 to 5.3.0.3

I am running an IBM 7038-6m2 (p650) with AIX 5.2 connected to a new cx4-120 Clariion.
I have the following filesets loaded.
CLArrayS3 level 5.2.0.7
EMCpower.base 3.0.4.0
EMCpower.consistency_grp 3.0.4.0
EMCpower.multi_path 3.0.4.0
EMCpower.multi_path_clariion 3.0.4.0
NAVIAGENT 6.4.0.5
NAVICLI 6.4.0.5
I need to migrate the AIX 5.2 to AIX 6.1 and I was wanting to know the best way to update the PowerPath software to the latest version before the AIX migration.
The SAN is direct connected via 2 fibre card cards.

does it make a difference if I remove powerpath and the CLARrrayS3 software and then install the lastest version of powerpath before the AIX migration?

Hi,

1. Remove PowerPath
2. Upgrade AIX OS
3. Upgrade the ODM definiation on the host to latest version see Primus emc144935 - version that supports AIX6.1 is 5.3.0.3 available from ftp://ftp.emc.com/pub/elab/aix/ODM_DEFINITIONS/
4. Install PowerPath 5.3

Afterwards you should upgrade your Naviagent to one that is supported on the CX4.

Sound ok?

Yes its important that you should always remove all EMC software prior to a major OS upgrade and re-install afterwards.

you can also have the golden image (ignite) you are using for OS upgrade to have additional softwares like PP, SE etc added so that you can install all of them in single shot.
