server booting takes a long time after PP upgrade from 4.5.3 to 5.1.0
Hi all,
I updated PowerPath for linux from version 4.5.3 to 5.1.0 using proper installation package. After this the time of server boot sequence has increased from 5 min. to 30 min. There are no error messages during startup but PowerPath section takes very long time. I thing that is caused by scaning the Luns during processing the PP section in file modprobe.conf.pp:
#begin-hba-qla2400
install emcp /sbin/modprobe pp_hba; /sbin/modprobe emcp --ignore-install
install pp_hba /sbin/modprobe qla2400;
#end-hba-qla2400
We have Dell servers, SLES9 SP3 Linux with kernel 2.6.5-7.244-smp, connected to disk storade CX3-20 using 2 HBA QLE2460. I use PP package EMCpower.LINUX-5.1.0-194.sles.x86_64.rpm.
Is there any workaround how to decrease time of booting?
Thank you very much.
regards,
Stefan

I had a quick look through the knowledgebase and cannot find any previous cases of this particular issue, I have not come across it before on SuSE hosts.
Would it be possible for you to open a case with the Support Center on this, they will be able to examine the problem in closer detail with the assistance of an EMCGrab.

DISABLE_BLKID=yes
This might help to improve your boot times. Are you seeing any error messages in the boot.log or in the messages file?
Cheers,
