Remove and Re-add the PowerPath licenses in PPVA
Hi All
In one of the client environment, we have a requirement to remove all the PowerPath served licenses and then re-add them back in PowerPath Virtual Appliance. Could someone help me with the impact on ESXi hosts while removing and re-adding the served licenses? Please note that we need to remove all license files and then add the correct ones alone.
If by removing the license, will the hosts become unlicensed for a period of time and operate in single path only mode? If not, how the new license will be applied to the underlying hosts? Do we need to reboot the PPVA and ESX hosts to activate the new license?

Hi Raman - there is no impact on PowerPath/VE functionality when the license files are removed.
You should not have to reboot either the PPVA or the ESX hosts to activate the new licenses, but if you run into any issues please open an SR and someone will assist.

Hi Bob - Thanks for your response. I understand that there will not be any impact to ESX hosts while removing and re-adding the licenses. My subsequent question is how the ESX hosts will get license from the PPVA? Do we need to register the host again or the hosts will get discovered / licensed at pre-defined time.
Regards

Raman - there is a polling interval where the PPVA/MA will check in on the ESX hosts and if they need a license will get one. As long as the ESX hosts continue to communicate with vCenter and the PPVA/MA is connected to the vCenter no action is required.
It may take some time for the "old" licenses to get flushed out of the system and replaced with the new, as we don't check that often. It think the default is 24 hours, but others on the thread may know more.
