PowerPath/VE license installation

Hello,

I was told that EMC will only sell unserved licenses going forward. Once I get the individual certificates from EMC, do I still need the license server appliance to push the unserved licenses to the ESX host? If not, how do I install the license on the ESX host.

Daniel - thanks for your query. PPVE served licensing is definitely not going away, not sure where you heard that but there are no plans to discontinue served support. Served licenses are the preferred solution.

FYI both served and unserved options are explained in the PPVE Install and Admin Guide on support.emc.com.

Yes, served is still an option. I did not hear served was ending!

If you are using the VAPP then you simply upload the Luc to the pp/VAPP, then from within your VAPP you can connect to vcenter. All hosts connected to vCenter will then receive a license automatically up to the max allowed licenses.

This sounds like served license as opposed to unserved.

Yes, I got it thanks. rpowermt is still the tool to handle the install, just don't need the license server component.

Daniel - if you use served licenses, then you need a license server. For unserved, you don't.

rpowermt is still the tool to use for unserved license install. The installation instructions can be found in the PPVE Install and Admin guide on support zone.

I realize that I need a license server for served licenses. I was talking about the unserved needing only rpowermt.
