Powerpath upgrade in RHEL 7
Hi All,
I need to upgrade powerpath from 6.4 to 7.2 on my Redhat linux 7.9 host.
As per the EMC upgrade procedure "Unmount any file systems that are mounted on PowerPath devices and deactivate any volume groups using these file
systems".
My system uses powerpath devices for all volume groups including rootvg. I can export non-root vgs and remount /boot partition using uuid but I am not sure how to disable rootvg filesystems, will it cause any issue for the upgrade.
could someone please help with the procedure on this.

Hello,
The only option I think you have would be to migrate rootvg. From the looking I've done, it seems like the best path would be to mirror the volume, confirm it's health, upgrade the version, then discard the old data. If you're needing greater detail than that, you may be better served creating a case, so that we can have someone confirm the process with you live.

Hi Dylan,
Thanks for your reply.
We managed to perform the Powerpath upgrade from 6.4 to 7.2 without any issues.
We don't need to worry about the rootvg, lvm.conf global filter setup as part of upgrade guide will help, in our case we customised the filter as per our environment setup.
Also, we took a SAN level snap backup before upgrading, so that it would be easy to restore our system.
Regards,
Karthik.
all we did was followed the upgrade procedure with few tweaks as per our system setup like different global_filter and exported non-rootvg.
Regards,
Karthik.
