PowerPath iSCSI problem

Good Morning,

I am attempting to install PowerPath (EMCPP.iSCSI.1.1.W2003.32bit) on a Dell PE2650 with Win2k R2 SP2 Standard Ed Server.

I began by Installing Microsoft iSCSI Intiator 2.06 and setting up the paths - all of which went fine.

But When I attemted to install PowerPath, I got the error message "MPIO Version Error: MPIO Version 1.2.3790.2099 is currently installed. This version installs MPIO Framework version 1.10 Please correct before installation."

I uninstalled MS iSCSI init v2.06 and installed v2.05 with the same results. Finally I backed down all of the way to MS iSCSI int v1.06 - which didn't even ask me about installing multipathing . This version allowed me to install powerpath but when I look in PowerPath in the 'Manage' MMC it says there are no paths to manage.

The oddest thing about the whole situation is that I have the same version of Powerpath, with MS iSCSI Int v2.06 installed on another similar server and it is working just fine.

Anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

Thanks!

i was told on this forum that for iSCSI to use regular PP 5.0 and higher ..no need for separate PowerPath package anymore.

yes do not use powerpath iscsi 1.1 it is no longer supported. you should load powerpath 5.1, support for iscsi and microsoft mpio was added to the regular powerpath install in 4.6.x and above. please use the latest supported microsoft iscsi init.

Thank you for your previous tips.

I removed the older ms initiator and the older Powerpath and Rebooted.

I reinstalled MS iSCSI init v2.06 and rebooted
I installed PowerPath version 5.01. It gave me the same error message as before, but allowed me to complete the installation. I rebooted again.
I finally installed the Windows agent that matches my Flare version and rebooted a final time

I configured my connections in iSCSI initiator and that all went fine. But when I open PowerPath I dont show anything under the Storage Array, Disks, or Adaptors tab.

This version is quite a bit different than what I was used to but shouldnt I see the paths available under 'Adaptors' along with their status, etc?

I tried stopping and restarting the PowerPath service after I configured the iSCSI connections but still no luck.

Any Ideas?

Thx

WOO-HOO That did it! I added it to a storage group but after a few minutes I still didnt see anything so I rescanned disks. I don't know if it was the rescan or just the extra time but now I can see everything.

Thanks for all your help!

Well now you are running REAL powerpath :)... powerpath will not display any adapters or disks until you present a data lun from the clariion or storage ... also you will only see 1 adapter/hba in powerpath, as the Microsoft iscsi Initiator is the adapter. no matter how many nics you have on the host they all pass through the Microsoft iscsi init. so it is seen as the "adapter".
