PowerPath and HDLM co-exist
Hi Guys,
Is there anybody have experience for impelement PowerPath and HDLM co-exist in the same HP-UX server to manage HDS devices (by HDLM) and EMC DMX4 devices (by PowerPath). Also experience in migration from HDLM (in manage HDS devices) to PowerPath (in manage EMC DMX4 devices).

PowerPath can coexist with the following third-party path management software:
◆ Hitachi Dynamic Link Manager (HDLM)
◆ IBM Subsystem Device Driver (SDD)
◆ HP StorageWorks Secure Path
◆ HP StorageWorks Auto Path XP Virtual Array
However, PowerPath cannot co-manage devices with third-party path management software. During installation of PowerPath, the installation script tests for the presence of third-party path management software on the system. When third-party path management software is installed on an HP-UX system, the PowerPath installation script disables support for the corresponding array type in PowerPath.
The usual best practices apply, HBA's should not be shared between different storage vendors (Hitachi arrays through one pair of HBA's, and EMC through a separate pair.

Hi,
actually we have a similar problem. We have Hitachi DF 700M disk storage and using it with HDLM for both windows 2003 and red hat. But we bought EMC CX4-120 but HDLM can't manage it. It shows LUn as 4 different disks. We are told that we have to use PowerPath but emc guys don't know what will happen if we install both PP and HDLM. So we don't know what to do.
in addition to that, we install PP to a server which HDLM is not available, PP didn't see the Hitachi disk storage too.
What is the best practice for a situation like this? And where can we find answer? Thank you in advance.

I just read my replies in this thread and in the other thread you posted in, I sound like a robot! :-)
