Powerpath 5.1 dead path on Windows Server

Hi,

I have one dead path to one device. All other dev's are ok on the same path. I have removed the dead path ok. How can I get the path back? Is it a rescan or reboot of Windows or is there another way using Powerpath cli? I thought it would be powermt config but this command is not supported on 5.1.

Thanks,

Steve

I've always found a rescan was required (although a reboot should do the same thing if you want). This forces the HBA to rescan the bus for devices (in this case paths to devices).

Every once in a while I run into a situation where a simple rescan won't work though and I have to reboot. It is Windows after all. *lol*

Hi Allen,

I thought that might be the case. As you say it's "Window's after all". Thanks for your reply.

The commands to retrieve a removed path would be as follows

scan for hardware changes in device manager

or

powermt restore

or

powermt check

powermt check reconfig

powermt check

or finally

reboot

It is recommended that you make sure that the powermt.custom file be renamed if it exists. For PowerPath 5.1 this file resides in C:\Program Files\EMC\PowerCommon. There may be a legacy version of this file in drivers\etc - this should be deleted.
