Unisphere seemingly flooded with too many users/REST API calls

Hi All.  It seems our UniSphere for PowerMAX 11.2.X.X is being flooded with too many REST API calls. We know one person who does that at times is Dell EMC (ViPR) SRM, and another Monitoring Tools also does that at times during the day. However, we want to know the total usage. And, need a way to find how many such calls are being made from all over the map. Is there any way to determine that. Any command or some tool to do that.  We do know that - A maximum of 5 REST API clients can connect to the Unisphere server concurrently. A maximum of 50 GET calls can be made to the Unisphere server per second. But we want to know the total usage being carried out here. As,  we keep getting thrown out of the UniSphere GUI the moment we start working on it. Weird.  Not sure if we are starving it and it can no longer serve us.   Please advise.   Best

Hi,

Thanks for your question.

This shows how to enable logging for the calls. https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-us/000189251/issues-seen-with-rest-api-clients-and-embedded-unisphere

Let us know if you have any additional questions.

@DELL-Josh Cr Hi.  Thanks.  Yes, I also stumbled upon quite similar yesterday(Article 000019037).  Enabled it for INFO/REST Logging and left it entire night. Today morning ran a fresh grab. But there is no folder named -  "smas.logs will have a file generated called restapi". There is only one folder SE. But no folder named smas.logs.   Searched for this in entire laptop. None. Thanks

@DELL-Josh Cr Hi Thanks.  Audit log was really helpful as we saw lots of things.  One of them was attached screenshot.  So, what this user is about, and where it exists. We don't see in UniSphere under local users.  Under Authorized Users and Group we do see one with small m.  monitor, but its Authority shown is local directory.  And there is no option to delete this user as well.  Plus we don't find this user in local computer where UniSphere is installed as StandAlone. So, how to deal with this.  As UniSphere access from outside keeps throwing users out in every 1-2 minutes.  And, when we directly work on the UniSphere Server, it doesn't kicks out.   Please advise.

It is a Unisphere user for monitoring the system.

@DELL-Josh Cr Hi. So, is it internal to Unisphere.  And it monitors the system.  Also, why it is logging off the users.  Every 1minute or 2 minute , it will just throw the user out -  saying user logged off due to inactivity.  But activity is happening.  Weird.  Any resolution.   Started happening after we moved to 10.2 version from 10.1.   Thanks.

Try changing the timeout for the user

By default, the client's browser will initiate an automatic logout after 480 minutes (8 hours). To change this value, set the parameter value of the
sageIdleUserTimeoutInMinutes context parameter (found in smc.ear/smc.war/WEB-INF/web.xml file) to any positive integer.

  • Edit web.xml
    • C:\Program Files\EMC\SMAS\jboss\domain\deploy\smc.ear\smc.war\WEB-INF
      • Change sageIdleUserTimeoutInMinutes to 15 (or any postive integer).
  • Delete, if exists
    • C:\Program Files\EMC\SMAS\jboss\domain\deploy0\
  • Restart U4P

@DELL-Josh Cr Hi. Thanks.  Understanding issues.  This parameter is already set to 480(default), but the question was -  Why it throws out every user in 1 minutes, saying -  user logged off due to inactivity.  That is what is being troubleshooted here.  There is no point chaning it to even less like mentioned above to 15. How does that help.  Plus "Try changing the timeout for the user" Is there a way to change this for a particular user.  No.    Also,   there is no user named 'Monitor'  there , so Is this an internal Unisphere user.  This was also not answered. Thanks.

Check the windows users on that system for the user. Since it happened asfter you upgraded you may need to call phone support so they can take a look.

@DELL-Josh Cr Hi.  They are already into it for 3 days now.  Even they don't have a clue.  Still troubleshooting. I thought someone had similar experience here in Community. Thats why contacted.   Currently we are managing by direct RDP to the Windows Server where UniSphere for PowerMAX is installed.  There it works for hours and hours with no issues.  Thanks
