What about XenServer 6.5?

Hi,

from the documentation (1.31), I see that XenServer 6.1 is supported.

However, we're on 6.2 and intending to migrate to 6.5 in the near future.

I'm waiting for the 29th, so I may be able to take a look at the software itself...

XenServer 6.5 is currently not supported . If there will be a field demand to support it - we will take it under consideration

Hi @rainer_d,

EMC standard procedure is to raise you roadmap request through your account rep tot he product management team. It's awesome that you post it in the community too, but the official channel is the one described above. I hope this will help getting more support for your request.

Hi Nici,

totally understood.

But we don't have an account rep, because we're not customers.

I wanted to take a look at this product, because it would solve a lot of problems (at a cost, obviously).

But as our platform (Xen 6.2+) is not supported, I'm afraid we will have to look elsewhere.

We run XenServer with CloudStack. It seems, there are a number of people with Xen+ScaleIO in production (this is where I heard about ScaleIO).

Now, CloudStack supports a quite a number of virtualization-techniques besides Xen - and most run on platforms supported by ScaleIO. But we currently don't use them.

XEN 6.5 is targeted to be supported in our next release. GA date should be within 1 week. Stay tuned...

Hello again!

Just an update to other that might be watching this thread.

I visited the ScaleIO download site yesterday and ScaleIO v.1.32.2 is available for download and it has support for XenServer 6.5. I installed it yesterday and seems to be working great.

Hi Stefanl

Is it working well yet? I've installed it in three XS 6.5 SP1 hosts, and in a few minutes, the mdm processes die.

Yes I have no such issues and i also use three 6.5 SP1 hosts.

Have you checked the logs in /opt/emc/scaleio/mdm/logs/ for some clues what goes wrong?

Just a few notes to you, EMC and other intrested.

The logs in /opt/emc/scaleio/*/logs gets realtive large compared to how small the filesystem of a dom0 in XenServer is.

This could make dom0 get full and therefore cause issues.

I don't know exactly how the default dom0 memory is set but even in machines with over 100GB of RAM we noted that some machines just had a 700MB dom0 memory set. I might be bacause the machines is upgraded from erlier versions of XenServer but if someone is running ScaleIO looking into how much RAM you have dedicated to dom0 is probably good to do.

Hi Stefanl

You were right about the dom0 memory. It was a fresh XS 6.5 install, but I had to increase the amount of memory to the maximum ( 4 GB ). Once rebooted the 3 hosts, it started performing well and I've been able to configure volumes, etc.
