Upgrade issue - ScaleIO v2.0.0.1 to v2.0.0.2

Hi all,

As suggested by osaddict in another forum ScaleIO link on F&F page was updated so is possible to download v2.0.0.2.

I'm working with a test rig made of:

- 4 nodes SDS installed on Ubuntu 14.04

- 2 nodes SDC installed on Windows 2012 R2

- Gateway and GUI installed on another Windows 2012 R2

I tried to upgrade my ScaleIO roles to version v2.0.0.2 but I'm facing a problem.

I uploaded the packages from the v.2.0.0.2 packages to the gateway then from the "Maintain" section I retrieved the topology then I ran the Upgrade procedure. I had to confirm the validation phase than the "upgrade - install phase" fails. The packages are uploaded correctly but the system fails during the "Upgrade LIA" step on the 4 Ubuntu nodes.

The task runs for 15 minutes then fails with an "Operation Timeout" error. I noticed that on the 4 Ubuntu nodes apper immediately a process called siopm that dies and remains in zombie state until reboot of the system as shown below:

There is someone that successfully upgraded ScaleIO from v2.0.0.1 to v2.0.0.2 using the ScaleIO Installer that could help us?

Since we are evaluating ScaleIO I can uninstall the version 2.0.0.1 and install directly the version 2.0.0.2 but since ScaleIO supports NDU, before buying the product, I'd like to accomplish an update without reinstalling completely the product.

Thanks in Advace,

Davide

P.S. I modified the post because I wrote that load was going high on Ubuntu SDS nodes as soon as the process siopm becomes zombie but I noticed that the high load on Ubuntu SDS was unrelated to the update procedure.

UPDATE:

finally I was able to upgrade my ScaleIO deployment to v2.0.0.2. Since siopm process was dying during the upgrade procedure I analyzed the sources of the script. I didn't make correction to the script yet but I understood what it does so I decompressed the tar manually on my 4 Ubuntu nodes then I extracted the LIA siob file manually using the command "/opt/emc/scaleio/lia/bin/siob_extract" so I got the deb package. I upgraded LIA manually using "dpkg -i" the previously extracted .deb.

After LIA upgrade I was able to use the gateway to upgrade the other components. I faced two other errors with the upgrade of the SDC component on windows and during the "finalizing phase" of the upgrade of the SDS component on Ubuntu:

- for the problem regarding the SDC component upgrade on Windows platform I decided to install manually the SDC msi file

- I noticed that the error that is notified during the finalizing phase of the upgrade of the SDS component is only cosmetic, relaunching the upgrade procedure the gateway says that the component is already updated.

The last thing I noticed, in my limited scenario, is that the xcache module is removed and then reinstalled so the configuration file "/bin/emc/scaleio/xcache_sync/driver_sync.conf" that is useful to download the xcache module matching the installed kernel version is overwritten and must be customized manually after the upgrade procedure.
