ScaleIO 2.0.0 to 2.0.1.0 and 14.04 to 16.04 upgrade
Hi All,
I have a scaleIO cluster currently on scaleIO 2.0-6035 on Ubuntu 14.04 (and RHEL 7 for some SDCs)
I need to get to ScaleIO 2.0-10000.2072 and Ubuntu 16.04
Is there an updated (2.0.1) Deployment / upgrade guide ?
Or is the process something like:
*upgrade scaleIO to 2.0.1 on 14.04 using same upgrade process I know:(upgrade GW, upload packages, upgrade cluster)
*remove 14.04 server from scaleio
*upgrade 14.04 to 16.04
*add/re-add server @ 16.04 to scaleIO
Best Regards,
Wade

Hello Wade,
I didn't find any official upgrade procedure to perform a dist-upgrade from Ubuntu 14.04 to 16.04.
Pay attention: a week ago EMC released a newer version of ScaleIO (version 2.0.1.1 - 2.0-11000.174).
I performed the upgrade to Ubuntu 16.04 according the following procedure (please note that the last available version of ScaleIO when I performed the upgrade was 2.0-10000.2072):
1) I upgraded ScaleIO on Ubuntu 14.04 to the version 2.0-10000.2072 (ScaleIO is backward compatible so probably this step wasn't necessary but I preferred to perform this additional step). Then I double checked that MDM cluster and all SDS were working perfectly and I checked manually that all the SDC were configured to connect to all the MDMs.
2) I evicted the first ScaleIO node from the ScaleIO infrastructure
3) I reinstalled completely the OS on the evicted server, that was my choice but in order to perform a dist-upgrade you can proceed to steps 3a and 3b.
3a) Remove the ScaleIO packages from the evicted ScaleIO node because ScaleIO packages are specific for Ubuntu version 14.04.
3b) Perform the dist-upgrade on the evicted node
4) I installed the ScaleIO packages (version 2.0-10000.2072) specifically released for Ubuntu version 16.04 (on the upgraded OS)
5) I readded the node to the ScaleIO infrastructure.
Then I reiterated the steps from 2 to 6 for all the other Ubuntu 14.04 ScaleIO nodes.
I think that there is a faster way to perform the upgrade but I preferred to follow this procedure to keep the system as clean as possible,
Kind Regards,
Davide

Thank you Davide. Yes that is the process I figured.
While I have you here - I just upgraded to 2.0-7536 ( since the 2.0.1.1 guide says do this before the final upgrade ) - where did the "download csv" option go? I can't seem to find it in the IM.
Thanks again
Wade

Hello Wade,
I noticed that the CSV extraction feature is missing but unfortunately I don't know the official reason, it is hard to argue a hypothesis, probably Pawel can help us to undestand the real cause...
From ScaleIO version 2.0.1.0 EMC the CSV format changed because of the MDM Virtual IP enhancement, maybe the CSV export procedure must be updated paying attention to these additional delicate parameters and maybe was temporarly removed in order to make addtional tests. I tried to download the Installation Manager logs from Maintain Tab and I noticed that the JSON configuration of the ScaleIO infrastructure is extracted correctly.
This is a mistery. Someone can help us to undestand why the Export CSV feature is missing from ScaleIO release 2.0.1.0?
Thanks in Advance,
Davide
