T310 and ESXi on a PERC S3000

Hello,

So I am finding mixed responses. It appears that ESXi doesn't support the T310 when a PERC S3000 is installed, yet the dell site lists it as compatible.

So........

Does it work or does it not?

If it does can someone point me to the installer?

Thank you,

Part # U558P , is a S300 card. There is definitely some confusion in the google searches, but it is a S300. I am not sure why some sites also label it as PERC6. If it were a PERC6 it would have a embedded DIMM and attached to a battery backup.

Innotechmi,

The Dell software controllers (s100 and s300) are not supported for use with Vmware ESXi. This isn't a limitation of the server, but the software. The reasoning that the Dell page shows support for it is that while the software controller isn't supported, the server with a hardware Raid controller installed is supported.

Hope this helps clarify things for you.

Dell-Chris H.

Thank you so much for replying. Honestly I am even more confused now. While I was waiting for your response, I did some hardware investigation. Since I got this server used, I can only guess what is installed. I cracked open the case, and I defiantly see my drives connecting to the back plane. I then see two cables coming off that to what I assumed to be the S300 RAID controller.

I was getting ready to purchase the PERC 6i which I was told would work for ESXi, however, the RAID card I pulled out of my server, from my research, appears to be a PERC 6i. I took the CN number from the card and matched it to the PERC 6i on google.

So I put it back in the server and tried again. I was then told that maybe it was a BIOS setting. I can't find a setting to disable PERC S300 in the BIOS.

So again, I am lost. Do I need to buy hardware to make this work? Or do I have the right card, I just need to disable it?

The T310 will only support 1 internal storage controller, and if you have both installed, remove the S300. Now if you are actually referring to the embedded on motherboard S100 storage controller, this can be disabled in the bios in Integrated Devices, SATA Settings, set to ATA or AHCI(setting to RAID enables S100). The S100 should be disabled by default when a physical raid controller is installed.

S100/S300 controllers do not support  any operating systems other than Windows.

The T310 and PERC6 supports ESXi verison 5.5 and you can download Dells version here -

This is what is installed in the server currently. From my Google searches this is a PERC 6i and shouldn't show as S300. This is the only thing installed other than the backplane.

Thank you. Can you describe where the S300 would be installed? From what I can tell the card thats in the PCI slot is a PERC6i but the software on load says S300?

Thanks

The PERC6 and S300 are only supported in slots 1,2. Assuming the PERC6 is in slot 1, I would assume that you might find the S300 in slot 2.

Thank you so much for the help and support. I ordered the PERC6 and installed it and it worked flawlessly with ESXI 6.0.  So this goes to show Google is wrong and Dell is right!  Thanks again for all the help!
