PowerEdge 2950 ESXi 5.5 hangs during install.
I have 2 x PowerEdge 2950`s.
Both will not install the below image.
Hangs right after boot of the ESXi CD( after 3 or 4 lines).
No errors. just hangs there.
The below image states that it is list my server under Compatibility.
VMware ESXi 5.5 Image
This is Dell Customized Image of VMware ESXi 5.5 Dell Version: A01, Build# 1331820
Anyone have any tips?
If this is a known issue.. what is the newest version I can run on it?

Hi Kristian_Br
I have just checked the VMware compatibility guide. It seems PE2950-III are supported with ESXi 5.5.
Are both your PE2950s both 3rd generation?
According the compatibility list again, PE2950-III with CPU Intel Xeon 51xx, 52xx, 53xx and 54xx series are supported.
VMware Compatibility Guide http://www.vmware.com/resources/compatibility/search.php
Let us know how it goes.

Yes both are 2950 gen 3.
I have disabled the onboard NIC and tried different IRQ`s in BIOS.
Is the PERC 6I a possible problem?
I have newest BIOS on MB and Perc card.
Is there any BIOS settings that can cause it to hang?

Other than the bios and PERC updates, have you considered updating the whole server (firmwares)?
Download and install Dell's Repository Manager (latest version is 1.7.0 right now), and make a bootable linux ISO for the 2950. Boot to this to update all firmwares (DRAC, BMC, bios, backplanes, network cards, raid controllers, etc). Maybe that could help.

Yes I already did that.
After taking out the PERC and booting it from a SATA drive from on-board controller it was still hanging.
Turns out it was the media I was using. The Teak Drive seems to be fussy about what type of media you use.
I tested the CD on another PC and it was fine. Burned a second CD with verification and it still did not work. There was nothing wrong with the CD other then the Teak drive would not read it.
Solution was to burn a DVD with a different brand of media (TDK) and install went like a dream.
Thanks for all the help tho.

ESXi 5.5 is released & its very stable. I am using it from last two weeks no issues so far. I have upgraded my ESXi 5.1 U1 to 5.5 without any issues.
You can try below guides,

had same problem on a Dell 2950. Swapped over to a different DVD reader and the install completed ok.
