Boot Issue on Windows Server 2022 – Dell EFI Message

Hello,

I'm encountering a boot issue with my Windows Server 2022. Please find below the error message displayed at startup:

Booting from AHCI Controller BOSS EFI Fixed Disk Boot Device 1
You have ordered a Dell system with OS installed. If you have ordered a Dell system with no OS installed... If you have ordered direct attach 3TB or larger drives, please be aware that not all OS have support for these larger drives.

Have you encountered this message before, or do you have a solution to help me boot the system properly?

Thank you in advance for your support.

Aster idir,

Would you confirm some details for me?

What server is this on?
Was the OS pre-installed, or did you install it yourself?
Is the server up to date on BIOS, iDrac, BOSS, drives, etc?
Which BOSS card model is installed?
Are there any errors being displayed on the server itself?
Lastly, were the drives and BOSS pre-installed or were they added after you got the server?

Let me know and we can go from there.

Hi Chris,

Thank you for your message.

Please find below the requested details regarding the server:

  • Server model: PowerEdge T550

  • OS installation: The OS (Windows Server 2022) was installed by myself.

  • Firmware updates (BIOS, iDRAC): Yes.

    • BIOS: version 1.16.2

    • iDRAC: version 6.20.10.50

  • BOSS card model: AHCI Controller in SL 10 – version 2.5.13.4009

  • Server errors: No errors are currently detected on the server.

  • Drives and BOSS card: These were integrated at delivery (not added afterwards).

Please let me know if you need any screenshots or log files to assist further.

Best regards,
Idir

Hello,

I suggest those steps:

- Ensure that UEFI boot is enabled in BIOS

- Check that EFI\boot|bootX64.efi file is present on the hard drive.

If not you have to repaire EFI bootloader if you use GPT disk

Hello,

Thanks for your suggestions.

  • UEFI boot is enabled in the BIOS ==> OK

  • The EFI\Boot\bootx64.efi file is present on the hard drive ==> OK

I also repaired the EFI bootloader since the disk is using GPT. Everything is now working correctly.

Thanks again!
