VRTX Foreign Disks

I have a working VRTX that I inserted some repurposed drives from an old VRTX and I want to create a new array. The repurposed drives show as "Foreign" in Physical Disk view. When I go to Controller Setup I see a button to Clear Foreign Configuration but all I see are the properly working virtual disks that are online and one physical disk marked ready. If I click the button to Clear Foreign Configuration, will it break the properly functioning virtual disks I have?

Hi,

That's correct, if the old VRTX disk have not been initialized before being used on another system, the PERC card will detect foreign configuration. Clear foreign will only clear configuration on the disks marked as Foreign. Hence, make sure the disk which are marked are not your existing working VRTX.

The disks you have insert contains a "raid configuration" and thats why the existing PERC shows a "foreign" config and as long as you dont clear the foreign config you cant do anything with the disks.

Clearing a foreign config will not effected your runnings vDisks.
