Trying to setup TrueNAS on 4 hdds on dell R720

I have an R720 as well and trying to figure out how to get Truenas discover the 4 HDD drives that I installed on it I have 8 HDD drives in it in total (and that's the maximum).

They are 3.5 inch drives I'm using 4 drives for eve ng and have TrueNAS vm installed on these as well which are in a single virtual disk.

Plan to use the remaining 4 for TrueNAS, only just inserted the remaining 4 drives yesterday so haven't created a virtual drive out of them (heard you do not need to create a virtual drive for TrueNAS or something.)

Right now TrueNAS doesn't see the 4 drives and upon researching I heard you need to convert the raid controller to pass through mode (correct me if in wrong), I'm looking for resources on how to do this if that's the case.

My main goal is to not lose my vms on the other 4 hdds and also be able to allow TrueNAS to access and see the other 4 hdds.

So is this possible? Can the dell 720 do x drives with host and x drives with vm?

Raid controller is a h710 perc mini

Thank you.

Hello @KBK94, thanks for choosing Dell and welcome to our community.

It sounds like you are trying to put H710's RAID on passthrough mode.

But you'll see that H710 does not support passthrough mode.
Also TrueNas isn't an officially supported OS either.

@DELL-Young E the dell R720 can definitely run TrueNAS whether or not it's supported I don't care, there must be a way to get this TrueNAS configured properly.
