T420, raid expansion

Dear Dell

I have a Dell T420 with Windows server 2016.  It has two virtual drives. C:raid1, 2 drives, D:raid5, 5drives.  This leaves me one spare drive slot.  I purchased another drive for the raid5 array but can't seem to find the right software to expand the array.  OMSA seems to be retired, ISM doesn't work on this server and IRADC7 doesn't seem to have an expansion option.  Where am I going wrong?

Hi,

Yeah, OMSA is retired, but I think you can still install it to do some configurations. Perhaps, you can follow what Joerg mentioned first. iDRAC7 does not have the capability to configure RAID, you are not wrong. Yes, you will need to know what PERC are you using, if you are using PERC S110, it does not support expansion.

It's the H310 PERC.  I found the post helpful but couldn't find such a menu option in IRADC7 or in the F2 menu.

The manual says clearly that H310 supports ORE.   So install latest OMSA for your OS/Host and select the "Reconfigure" Task within the VD and select your Disks.  Sometimes you need to scroll to the right to see the Dropdown within the GUI.

OMSA is depricated for latest Hosts but your Hardware is around 12 years old and your OS is 10.

@Origin3k This is where I came in.  In the driver and downloads for a t420 I see loads of OMSA bits and bobs but no obvious distribution install link.

Question is what was the last supportet version on your 12Gen Host.

If i use the dell.com/support and enter T420 i got for Windows 2016

https://www.dell.com/support/home/de-de/drivers/driversdetails?driverid=wfy7v&oscode=wst14&productcode=poweredge-t420

The search term is "adminis" and the it will suggest the right Product name.

@DELL-Joey C Thank you.  I will let you know the outcome and make sure the firmware is up-to-date.  What about hard drives? does the firmware of the new drive need to be the same as the others in the raid?

LawrieBoarer,

While not required, it is suggested to have all the drives up to date on the latest firmware.

@DELL-Joey C Thanks for this.  It got me a lot further.  I now have OMSA installed and it passes all the prerequisite test.  When I try to login it comes up with the initial splash screen wanting machine, user and password.  I have tried all possibilities and read a lot of peoples ideas but can't seem to get beyond the splash screen.  it either says no connection or it says credential failures.

can you advise please?

@LawrieBoarer

OMSA always use the LocalOS Administrator.  You may also check if all Dell Services are up and running.
