Replacing T10 PI capable to a incapable drive
Dear All,
we have a R530 server with H710 mini controller and 1.2TB SAS T10 PI capable drives but need to upgrade them to 2.4TB but only have T10 PI incapable drives. So the replacing not automatic because the RAID-1 is T10 PI capable and not accept T10 PI incapable drives.
Any idea how to transfer on the fly or at least less time to clone/transfer?
Reinstalling takes days so it won't work because this is a 7/24 system.
Thank you,
Balazs.

Hello,
The new drives aren't compatible. Got it. But it's essential to weigh the risks. I can't recommend to use them. But I preferred this method. First, you’ll need to set up a temporary RAID array using the new drives. Once that’s ready, grab a cloning tool to copy all the data from your current RAID array to this new one. After the cloning process is complete, go ahead and shut down the server. Finally, swap out the old RAID array with the new one.
Just be mindful of performance and data consistency during the process with minimal downtime.
Hope that helps!
