Recently Logged Storage Events and Patrols
Dell PowerEdge R720 w/PERC H710 RAID controller
Hi,
I have a few, related questions:
1. In the Storage Overview, I see a table of "Recently Logged Storage Events". How do I see a full log of the events?
2. How do I see details on the patrol operations and schedule?
3. How often should "Patrol Read" operations run and how do they work? That is, does a full scan take multiple patrols?
I'm seeing four operations in the last three weeks or so. There is some big variation in the time needed. The first patrol took 56 hours. Then second, 156 hours. The third, 53 hours. The fourth started today.
No Events found!

Re: #2 and #3
I was able to find the "Patrol Read Report" and it shows the history of the patrols. However, it doesn't tell me any details (for example, how many errors were corrected and on which disks) but it does show "passed" for each one.
I read that the patrols run every 7 days. That matches the log. I'm using the default "auto" setting.
I still need to answer #1. I would still like to know more about the patrols - how much it is scanned every 7 days?
And I still need to know if I can see the error/correction history.

Hi,
Patrol Read operations usually run every 7 days by default to catch and fix disk errors. These scans happen in the background and cover all the disks in the array. The time they take can vary a lot (like 56 hours or 156 hours) depending on things like disk size, number of disks, how busy the system is, and other tasks running at the same time. You can check out the details and schedule of these operations in the 'Storage' section of OMSA.
Hope that helps!

@DELL-Erman O
Thanks for your reply! Is it actually scanning every sector, every 7 days?

It scans over all the sectors of the VD every seven days, as seen on page 21 here.

It is working for me.
It could be a temporary issue with the support site, so you may want to try in a few minutes.
Here is the link again.
