R740 8x3.5” to hba330 cable?

What is the part number for the cable (6) in this diagram from the r740 documentation?

I have an r740 with the 8x3.5” drive bays, and currently it is cabled to the onboard sata ports - I’m planning on running Ubuntu server, but may pivot to unraid or truenas, so not looking to do a raid card. I was thinking of adding an HBA330 mini and that would open up the option of sas drives, but I need the cable to connect the backplane to the hba.

1. is there any performance benefit to running the hba rather than ahci mode?
2. Does the hba enable more/better display of the drive status in idrac?
3. what on earth is part number for the cable (6) in this diagram? I can’t seem to find it on the forums or in the documentation.

Hello,

Here is a comparison of some of the disk information visibility in iDRAC9 when using AHCI (SATA) versus the PERC HBA330:

Disk Information Visibility in iDRAC9

Feature

AHCI (S140 Software RAID)

PERC HBA330 (Non-RAID HBA)

Disk Health

Basic SMART data only

Full SMART data and enclosure info

Drive Type

SATA only

SAS and SATA

Predictive Failure Alerts

Limited

Fully supported

Advantages of HBA330 for iDRAC Monitoring

  • SES (SCSI Enclosure Services) support allows iDRAC to query drive enclosures for detailed health and status.
  • SAS drive support enables enterprise-grade monitoring features not available with AHCI.
  • Drive slot mapping is accurate and visible in iDRAC, critical for troubleshooting and replacement.
  • SMART and predictive failure data is more complete and actionable.

@DELL-Marco B

thank you very much! Do you know if there is a difference in the disk information available to idrac 9 via ahci vs the hba330?
